Board Meeting Minutes - October 25, 2010

October 25, 2010
7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Roswell Visual Arts Center

The meeting was called to order by Tom Hoffmann at 7:05 pm in the Roswell Visual Arts Center. Those in attendance were: Tom Hoffmann, Ed Waters, Lou Raimondi, Jim Pettit, Nancy Mingo, Gittel Price and Bill Magley.

Jim Pettit presented the Treasurer's report. The board discussed the primary sources of income "revenue" and the primary expense categories. RPS continues to be in good financial condition, with adequate funding. There was a general discussion about how strongly annual voluntary donations should be recommended.

Tom Hoffmann reviewed the results of the North Georgia Camera Club Council Shootout held in Rome. RPS finished 3 rd, and won a $200 Showcase gift card. Tom will prepare a slideshow the RPS entries for presentation at the next general meeting.

The new projector purchase was discussed. Gittel Price will check with Showcase on their pricing, including any available RPS credits. Nancy Mingo will check Buy.com and other Internet pricing, and we will go with the lowest-cost option. Gittel moved, and Jim Pettit seconded, that we proceed on that basis. Unanimously approved.

Nancy Mingo noted that she is revising the membership form and will add a note encouraging a donation with new memberships or renewals.

Nominations for the 2011 Board were reviewed. Candidates Scott MacInnis, Eric Paulding, Debbie Paulding, Lynn Kahn, Mark Walter, Maury Kalnitz and Ted Fisher have expressed an interest and willingness to serve. Specific assignments will be discussed and settled in a future nominating committee meeting.

Upcoming event calendar was discussed. Lou Raimondi will follow up with Stan Clay on arrangements for a Thomas Dodd workshop (likely target January 2011). The "Help Portrait" event will be December 4 from 10-2 at the VAC. Gittel is working with the North Fulton Charities for participants, and she has arranged pro shooters as the primary photographers. Mark Walter will also post on Meetup.com for additional volunteers.

The 2010 RPS Holiday Party was discussed. John Mariana will judge submissions from the UPS Car Show in September; Lou will get a gift card for a prize. Gittel and Lou will check on potential DJ's. Expenses for the party are estimated at $500. Bill Magley will make the Photographer of the Year certificates.

There was general discussion of Photo Review judging. Reinforcing use of the Novice category in Photo Review judging was discussed. Potential 2011 themes were discussed; Tom will solicit member suggestions in a future meeting. The possibility of dropping the Altered and Black & White categories and setting the points awarded for digital projection equal to print categories was discussed; Tom to also solicit member input via a survey at the next general meeting.

There being no further business, Bill Magley moved and Ed Waters seconded that the meeting be adjourned. With unanimous consent, the meeting adjourned at 9:15 PM.

Respectfully Submitted;

Bill Magley
RPS Secretary
