2014 Photo Review Themes

Submission Guidelines (PDF)
January Open (Vintage): In an “Open” competition month, photographers are allowed to enter their best work on any subject. This month is also a "vintage" competition, so the image can be taken at any time during the photographer's lifetime, not just within the past 12 months as for the non-vintage themes.
February Repetitive/Patterns: Strong images can be achieved by incorporating repeating shapes, lines, or patterns in a composition. Submitted images can be of any subject matter, as long as they include clear patterns or repeated shapes. Note that this is non-vintage, so images must have been taken in the past 12 months.
March Glass (Window/Glass Objects): Glass must be the major compositional element and the primary focus of your photo. Note that this is non-vintage, so images must have been taken in the past 12 months.
April Emotion: Your image should evoke strong emotion from the viewer. The image can be a person, place, scenery, etc., anything that depicts a deep feeling or reaction. Note that this is non-vintage, so images must have been taken in the past 12 months.
May Indoor Natural Lighting: Any image captured by natural light meets the theme. This can include, but is not limited to objects, interiors, people, etc. This month's review will give the photographer an opportunity to use natural light to highlight their image. Note that this is non-vintage, so images must have been taken in the past 12 months.
June Food: Food must be the major component of the image to meet the theme. Note that this is non-vintage, so images must have been taken in the past 12 months.
July Rural America: The depiction of your image should reflect rural America. Note that this is non-vintage, so images must have been taken in the past 12 months.
August Long Exposure: The definition of long exposure is an image captured by means of a slower shutter speed, usually on a tripod. Note that this is non-vintage, so images must have been taken in the past 12 months.
September Hot or Cold: This month we are exploring images that evoke a feeling of hot or cold. When the image is viewed, that should be the first impression. Note that this is non-vintage, so images must have been taken in the past 12 months.
October Black-and-White - Open (Vintage): In this “Open” competition month, photographers are allowed to enter their best work on any subject as long as it is in black-and-white. This is a vintage month, so the image could be captured anytime during the photographer's lifetime.
November Inclement Weather: When looking at your image, it should be obvious that you have depicted that inclement weather is evident. Note that this is non-vintage, so images must have been taken in the past 12 months.
December No Photo Review
Open - No specific Theme. The image may be of any tasteful subject.
