Booth Museum Photography Lecture Series - Thursday May 24th
When: Wednesday, May 16, 2012 thru Thursday, May 24, 2012

From RPS member, speaker & judge John Mariana:

Hello,

Please see the attached for details of the Onne van der Wal presentation on Thursday, May 24, from 7:00 to 8:30 in the main theater in the Booth Museum in Cartersville, GA.

Due to the funding from Canon USA this presentation is free to Booth Photography Guild Members and to Booth Museum Members.  The admission for non members is $10.  Please plan to attend.

Onne (pronounced "Onn-Uh")  is a world pronounced photographer of sailing vessels and a Canon Explorer of Light.  Onne has been a nautical, sailing and yacht photographer for over 20 years.  Once a professional sailor, Onne got his start in nautical, sailing and yacht photography while sailing with the 1981-82 Dutch Whitbread Around the World Race Team on their winning boat, FLYER.

Onne's in depth understanding of sailing and boats brings a unique element to his nautical/sailing/yacht photography and lends itself to his individual style all the while shooting with a keen eye and meticulous attention to the mechanical details of the yachting photograph.  His nautical, sailing and yacht photography is now shot entirely digitally on Canon 1-DS cameras with top of the line lenses, equipment and software.

Onne has crossed the Atlantic more than ten times, and has raced in many other trans-oceanic events. Most recently his ocean sailing has been on nautical photographic expeditions, which have taken him as far north as Spitsbergen in the Norwegian Arctic and as far South as Antarctica.  In the winter of 2003 Onne was fortunate enough to photograph an epic journey to retrace the steps of Sir Ernest Shackleton on the Island of South Georgia in the Falkland Islands.

Theme: Close-Up
When: Monday, May 21, 2012, 7:00pm-9:00pm

Close-up: Close-up photography sounds exactly like what it is, a closer-in photographic examination of a subject. It does NOT have to be true "macro" photography where images are supposed to be life-sized, just close-up detailed shots of whatever you find interesting.

Did you know:

This is non-vintage, so images must have been taken in the past 12 months.  Be sure to check your EXIF data to ensure the picture was taken in the last 12 months.

Photo Review, Judge: David Akoubian
Theme: Fog or Mist Vintage
When: Monday, June 18, 2012, 7:00pm-9:00pm

Fog or Mist Vintage: Fog or mist should be an integral part of the composition.

This month is also a "vintage" competition, so the image can be taken at any time during the photographer's lifetime, not just within the past 12 months as for the non-vintage themes.

Did you Know: Showcase Photo & Video, a strong supporter of the club, has a VIP Card (Very Important Photographer).  It will give you discounts on lots of merchandise (not cameras & lenses) and credits your purcahse to the RPS account.  The club gets a rebate from that account.
