RPS April 6th Meeting - Speaker: John Marianna "Often someone sees my photography and tells me that I was lucky to be at the right place at the right time. This is so very far from reality. I have been with other photographers photographing a scene and my final images are very different from the others. "How can I explain that my heeart and mind determine what I capture and create as a final vision? That is my special talent. All that is in my field of vision is nothing more than a snap shot if it has not stirred my heart to feel emotions and excited my mind to see colors, shapes, compositions. My final images may not actually exist in the real world. The painting artist puts on paper or canvas what he sees and then changes through his style of art. "My artistic visions depict the world as first seen within my mind. My heart provides the emotional content. Color, light, shadows and special relationships are combined to bring you into my world to have you feel the world as I feel it. "So, my specialty is seeing and presenting the world in my style, in my color palette and filled with the emotions I want you to feel. "This prsentation presents several images as they were photographed. I will then present the Photoshop steps used to create the final emotional images. This involves contrast control, dodge, burn, hue and saturation, composition, perspective, distortion, layers and masking." 6:30-7:00 PM: Social |

Her most recent work, mostly in color, explores abstract constructions that often seem more akin to painting than photography. As photographer, Kolb stays true to the simplest form of her medium - all works are straightforward, unmanipulated images, and she uses no digital cameras or printing techniques. Kolb takes all photographs with a Hasselblad medium format camera and prints with traditional enlargers. Her fine art photographs can be found in numerous private and institutional collections including those of the Georgia Museum in Athens, GA, the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, King & Spalding (Atlanta), Georgia Conservancy, Emory's Goizueta Business School, Georgia Tech, and the City of Atlanta.
