Photographers of the Year Info (All Years)

John Clemmer - 2007

John is a retired Navy musician with 24 years of service. Upon his retirement in 1991, he attended The Portfolio Center in Atlanta and studied advertising photography. Since that time, he has developed his craft in architectural shooting and sets himself apart with quality, distinction, and a hard work ethic.

John's passions are music, travel, and fine art photography. As a member of the Roswell Photographic Society, he has a great opportunity to express himself with his fine art. He has exhibited his work in art galleries, the Artisan Resource Center, The Center For Fine Art Photography in Colorado, the Marietta Museum of Fine Art, Heaven Blue Rose Contemporary Gallery in Roswell, Fulton County Public Library, and other various venues.

Artist statement:

My greatest passion in life is fine art, whether it be photography, painting, sculpture, music, architecture, whatever. Beauty presents itself and I absorb it. It’s that simple. Hopefully, my work gives back some of what I take from life. I am grateful for the fun of doing it.

Paul Conlan - 2007 & 2006

Gallery Images

Paul’s photography has been described as “street photography” and “journalistic” which he views simply as an attempt to capture “life” as it unfolds around us. Many photographs are taken reflexively to capture a passing moment. More time is available for other images that capture the intriguing graphic details of objects as they are found. Few images are ever posed. With certain photographs, Paul uses a digital technique to create “reversals” (negative-like images) that he believes help us see our world “through other eyes.”

Paul’s love of photography originated with his Father whom he once “accused” of photographing every egret and blue heron in South Florida… at least twice. After graduating from Georgia Tech, Paul studied art from Faye Gold and photography at the Atlanta College of Art. For years Paul worked primarily in black and white, processing film and printing in his own dark room. In 1996 he moved to digital photography, which he does exclusively today.

Paul is an active member of the Roswell Photographic Society where he was named Overall Photographer of the Year for 2006 and Digital Photographer of the Year for 2005. He is also active with the Atlanta Photography Group (APG) where his work is often included in shows at the Tula Arts Center. His work has been exhibited at numerous shows in Georgia and elsewhere in the South. Paul also speaks regularly to art/photo groups on the topic of street photography, illustrating his techniques with many examples of his photographs.

Kristy Moresi - 2005

Kristy Moresi studied photography at the Southeastern Center for the Arts in Atlanta, Georgia. She was a writer/photographer then Editor-in-Chief for Peachtree Papers Magazine (circ. 5,000). She took a break from the work to raise her children and recently revitalized her career as a fine art photographer.

Kristy’s 2005 awards include a first place in the RPS Spring Members’ Show and Best in Show in Grace Gallery’s Annual Juried Competition. Two of Kristy’s photos were selected for display alongside a handful of images from locally and internationally known photographers as part of the on-line exhibition at the Atlanta Celebrates Photography website, acpinfo.org. One of the images also serves as the site’s “Contact ACP“ page background.

Al Schrank - 2004

Tom Wilson - 2003 & 2002

Tom Wilson started in photography at age 40, when his life long love of hiking and the outdoors led him to pick up a camera. He read everything that he could and joined the Roswell Photo Society. Tom won numerous honors including Photographer of the Year in Slides and Prints in 2001, Slides, Prints and Overall Photographer of the Year in 2002 and Prints and Overall Photographer of the Year in 2003. Tom also served as RPS Vice President in 2002 and President in 2003.

Tom enjoys nature and travel photography but is probably best known for his work with the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area which has resulted in numerous images and articles being published, including one magazine cover and many images being used by the National Parks for promotion of the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area. This year Tom's images were selected by the Park Service to be used in their Healthy Parks Campaign, and his images were used to wrap a MARTA Bus which was the centerpiece of the campaign.

Tom's two current projects are focusing on Granite Outcrops of Georgia such as Davidson Arabia Mountain and Coastal Georgia.

Vicki Hunt - 2001

Vicki Hunt studied BW photography at the University of Alabama (Birmingham.). She taught hand coloring photos at the Roswell Visual Arts Center for three quarters. Vicki was the first Photographer of the Year, as well as Alternative Category Photographer of the Year in 2001.

Vicki loves the unusual alternative image, but considers architecture and reflections her passions. Her Photo Card business keeps her busy, and her work was recently published in "Christmas With Southern Living", 25th edition, 2005 under Card Tricks. Two of her images were used in 2005 as postcards for an American Express wholesaler, and her "Remembering" image of the World Trade Center was presented as gifts to financial executives throughout the country. Vicki loves to compete on the Better Photo website and had 6 second place winners in 2005.
